  Club Officer Training

Feedback from January 25, 2003 President Training
At the TLI this past weekend the President's workshop discussed various ideas they had tried at their clubs. From that they came up with two lists. List one was the list of ideas that were successful at their club. List two was a list of ideas that had not been successful at their club. The Presidents wanted to share this information so please find it listed below in those two groupings.
  Ideas That Worked:

- enthusiasm and recognition
- presenting President's Distinguished Club - not mentioning other levels
- be sincere and listen to executive and members. Put yourself in their shoes and work together
- putting together a set of "cheat sheets" or overview of each agenda position to give to new members
- social evening after meetings
- CTM speeches
- mentoring and monitoring (in progress)
- monthly executive meetings to address issues regularly
- follow up - warmth, friendliness, membership, executive
- membership building
- a dynamic executive
- encourage and support members
- have strongly emphasized the importance of the Distinguished Club Program
- being consistent in leadership
- using an existing group mailing list to get information about meetings out
- speechcraft
- always do whatever you can to have a successful meeting - never give up!
- first executive meeting in July and entire executive planned DCP goals and got on board for next year
- core group to share leadership value
- help yourself to improve then help others to succeed
- setting example
- goals -> increase membership
- get involve previous membership
- keep in touch with the speaker after the meeting
- members just asking to come to take a look
- executive meetings in August (5 of 7 attended)
- club needed structure, agenda, monthly schedule, bi-weekly business meetings, monthly executive meetings

  Ideas That Did NOT Work:

- e-mail meetings - need the face-to-face for motivation and encouragement
- newsletter
- alternative meetings in summer
- member who won't collaborate - not open to other member's ideas
- moving our location
- not following up with guests
- have pizza following meetings (pizza delivery person always showed up at the wrong time)
- telling people what to do
- failing to blend speechcraft with a normal meeting
- promote your own idea without support of your executive
- sell your idea to the executive
- find the interest of your group
- succession planning
- pushing membership building
- newspaper does not seem to work
- get involved the rest of the group - delegate, induction for example
- get them to register in convention, confernce and this TLI
- meet other day then our regular meeting
- ringing bell after time is up
- having members volunteer for meeting roles
- membership contest
- newer member as VP of Education
- trying to do everything myself (delegating has worked, get more people's heart into it)
- be sensitive with constructive feedback
