District 42 Fall Conference

November 8, 9 & 10, 2002
at the Coast Plaza Hotel
Calgary, AB

It was a great weekend. Over 400 Toastmasters attended the conference, even though there was some nasty snow that arrived on Friday.

I was taking some photos during the weekend and have uploaded them in chronological order here. Please click on the following links to see them (if you want to download them right click on the photo and save to your hard drive, or feel free to copy them).

FRIDAY NIGHT - Safari Night

Mona, Heather and Judy welcoming guests at the front door all dressed up in their Safari costumes.

Lloyd (me) joins them for a quick snapshot

Heather and Sarah pose by the lions at the conference entranceway

A couple of the hardest working guys at the conference - Tyler on sound, Dean the Co-Chair and Mike on sound

Good costume (on the right) I haven't the foggiest notion who that is.

Are these bumble bees??, or is that the West Nile Virus Twins?

Trish, Laura & Al pose by the banners

Ann and Rowena

Running the registration desk is a lonely job for Linda

3 Pussycats together. Only one is Shelley

Time to relax while enjoying The Band at the Hospitality Suite

SATURDAY morning

Mike and Al very early Saturday morning

The head table is piped in

Part of the march in involves Scouts carrying the flags

Then the Scouts place the flags on the stage

All the flags are now standing on the stage

Gavin thanked the Scouts in this photo

Took a snap shot of one of the new club tables - Heritage Go Getters

And then another new club table - Heritage Go Getters

Gavin starts his Keynote Speech on Saturday morning

Gavin with some other friends

An educational session featuring Rick Harding

The minute by minute guy took a few moments to relax but it made me look lonely. Course I wasn't the only one eating alone (we were waiting for everyone else to get back). But don't worry, I made up for it later.

I dropped in on another fine educational

I did get a picture of part of the head table at the Award Luncheon

Later in the evening I was lucky enough to accept the Sunshine Ribbon as President of my club. It was great as my club Station 29, received its First Ribbon!

District Governor Jacquie Schnider received a standing ovation at the Governor's Banquet

The fireplace was a nice focal point for photos. I caught this lovely group

Gavin & Bea with another group of new friends
(Sarah, Donna, Heather, Gavin, Bea, Lloyd, Angela & Liz)

The co-chair, Dean, with his lovely wife Trish

Dino, Gavin and Lloyd (me)

Later that evening Bea and Carolyn unwind in the Hospitality Suite

A nice photo of the Hospitality Suite's band

Did you know that when everyone is unwinding in the Hospitality Suite or fast asleep that it is time for:

The sound guys to either set up or tear down in preparation for the next day's event? It takes a lot of work and usually happens behind the scenes at off hours. They were Tyler, Mike and Dave.

As well the hotel prepares each room after everyone leaves. Bet you didn't know that these kids worked till 3:00 am each night and were back at 6:00 am to start it all over again. As the minute by minute guy or sound guys as they were there to witness it all! The hotel says this is the start of the busy season for them hence the long hours.

And then late Saturday Bea checked back with the hotel staff seen surfing on the carpet trolly. Apparently she lost a fine gold necklace that night. If anyone found it let us know.

SUNDAY morning

Sunday was the morning of the Table Topics contest. I missed that but did catch:

The Lethbridge Team promotes the Spring Convention. You can check their webite out at their Spring Convention site.

Nandini and Bea relaxing at breakfast.

A shot of the room (with some of the conference committee members)

Jacquie, Gavin, Bea and Mavis go through the White Hat Ceremony.

The conference Co-Chairs, Dean & Carolyn, are presented plaques by Dist Gov Jacquie

The District staff is given a gift from the Fall Conference.

And my last picture is of the Committee members on stage getting thanks for a job well done!

It was a Great Weekend.
